Health /Wellness & Beauty

Here is where I will share everything that I am digging as it relates to my health/fitness journey, as well as what's new in,  skincare, hair and hair products.

My Skin Care Routine by....... Ladwina Holmes

Ladwina, or as I call her, Deenie, is one of my favorite YouTubers!  She is  a licenced  MUA, and also a friend.  She started me out on my love of makeup!  I  copied everything she  did for the longest time.  I actually didn't even know that there were makeup videos on YouTube before checking out her vids!

let's talk about detoxing... by Latrice Gogins

Detox is defined as the process or period of time in which one abstains from or rids the body of toxic or unhealthy substances.  How do the toxic and unhealthy substances get there?  Well, we put them there!  Did you know that everything you consume is processed by your body?  How does the body process everything you ask?  It is done by the largest internal organ…that’s right the liver!

The liver serves as a sifter for our bodies.

Everything we eat, drink, and apply to our skin has to be processed/metabolized via the liver.  Everything from the toothpaste and mouthwash you use, down to what you drink and eat, including medications, lotions, perfume, soaps, alcohol and tobacco, just to name a few.  When the liver is over-stressed, and the digestive system is experiencing toxic overload, your body will let you know in the form of sickness, dis-order or dis-ease.

Here are a few indications that you (your body) may be in need of a detox:

  • Sweat a lot and have strong body odor

  • Stomach ulcer

  • Indigestion

  • Irritable Bowel Syndrome

  • Diverticulitis

  • Autoimmune Disease

  • Hemorrhoids

  • Facial and Body Acne

  • Eczema

  • Asthma

  • Bronchitis

  • Joint or muscle aches and pains, Arthritis, Fibromyalgia

  • Hypertension

  • PMS

  • Excessive mucus, stuffy nose, sinus problems

  • Behavioral Disorders

  • Depression

  • Allergies

I love a good sew in!  Those close to me know that I am a bit of a hair snob, too.  I am very particular about the hair that I purchase.  Because I really like to get the most bang for my buck and wear the style for as long as possible, I have to get a high quality hair.  My hair of choice for the past 2Y has been Ziye' Luxury Human Hair.  I absolutely love this hair!  My hair is natural, so I only rock the kinky curly hair, as it matches my own texture perfectly.    If you're a Diva that likes her curly hair, you KNOW that it is high maintenance!  There can be so much shedding, tangling and matting if the hair is not of good quality...which is why I like Ziye'.  This hair is amazing!   Premium 100% Virgin Remy hair, that has little to no shedding, tangling and NO matting! (with proper maintenance).  This hair can also be reused if that is what you desire...again, with proper maintenance.  Just for Curvy Fabulosity subscribers, they are offering 10% off a purchase of $275 or more, just use promo code Curve10 !  I promise you if you try this hair, you will be soooo glad you did!

Just like I am picky about my hair, I am also picky about who installs it.  There is only one person currently that does my sew ins, and that is Monique Muhammed of Yeshe Salon in Plano, Texas.   Since I live in Chicago, I have to plan my sew in appointments around her visits (she's orginally from Chicago, and still has a tax business and family here).  It is always so worth it, though.  Monique's sew ins are seamless and bar none, the best I've seen.  So, if you are a Curvy Fabulosity Diva in the Plano area, check her out, you will be glad you did!

I hate Cancer.  I am positive that everyone reading this blog post has been affected in some way by this dreadful disease.  You have either lost someone to cancer, or know someone who is currently being treted for it, or is a survivor.  I fall under all three categories.

This blog post, however, is about a Survivor!  One of my high school friends, Monique Bennet Muhammed was was diagnosed with Stage IIB Breast Cancer at the age of 32 when she was a single parent to 2 adopted daughters (15 &17) and 1 biological daughter (1). She was self-employed as a Cosmetologist and ran a home based business providing income tax preparation services. Moni Je' was told after her diagnosis and Lumpectomy surgery that her only parent her mother had Colon Cancer at age 56.  She and her mother both went into remission, and although Monique has been cancer free ever since, her mother lost her battle with cancer in 2009. Monique founded Code Pink Productions as a way to give back and share her story.

I am so very proud to call this woman a friend for over 30Y!  I have learned from so much from watching her about humility, faith and hard work.  Monique is a Certified Accountant and currently runs a successful tax business in two states (Texas and Illinois), and is a successful licensed cosmetologist with a high end salon, Yeshe Salon, in the well to do, city of Plano in Texas.  She is also a Life back a portion of what was given to her. Watch her survivor video below, she is definitely someone you need to know!  Check out her website to learn more about how you can help get her message out!

Fetish cosmetics

While at the Curve Culture Fashion Show yesterday, I stopped by the Fetish Cosmetics table.  They specialize in lipsticks, glosses and mascara.    Well, I was taken by this flawless lip combo!  This look consists of two colors, Bitchy (love that name)  Bitchy is a beautiful deep purple, and it's topped with Love Dust, a funky irridescent color.  They had so many colors to choose from, it was crazy!  Their products are all natural, and some are even vegan friendly!   Follow them in IG @fetish_cosmetics.

Orange Lippies for Darker Skin

Really good video from Stylish Curves on orange lippie options for all of my Chocolate Curvy Divas!  I added a couple to my must try list!  Check out her channel for other great videos.

Lip Fetish Haul

I reconnected with Robin Wheeler, from Fetish Cosmetics...I am really feeling her lippies! She actually just launched a couple of months ago, so her line is fairly new. However, she's definitely got a quality product! She's launching her site in about a week, but you can reach her on IG @fetish_cosmetics. Now, to the lippies!

Flawless Face Using Drugstore Products

I get asked A LOT about my makeup in my pics.  I actually do all of my own, I'm not an MUA...I just watch a lot of YouTube!  LOL.  This look was one of the pics in my featured spread in Queen Size Magazine (shameless plug)!

I achieved this flawless look using all drugstore products...well, I cheated with the primer (I only use Becca), and the lipstick (it's from Lip Fetish).  See below for a list of products used...

Foundation - Loreal Tru Match (my color is N8 Cappucino)

Eyeshadow  - Wet N Wild Comfort Zone Pallete

Brows - Wet N WIld Eye Pencil - Dark Brown

Blush - Wet N Wild Mellow Wine

Contour - Cover Girl Queen Collection Ebony Bronze

Setting Powder - Black Opal Deluxe Finishing Powder  (Medium)

Lips - Lip Fetish Very Dark Cherry lipstick and gloss

I am working on getting my comfort level up to do a YouTube video on how I apply my makeup, but again, I am not an MUA, so I am hesitant to play in that sandbox.  But I will answer any questions anyone has about MY makeup routine/applicaton.
